Honeymoon Nails: Long-Wear Tips, Products, and Inspiration | POPSUGAR Beauty

Your honeymoon nail look is just as important as your wedding-day manicure. There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to prolonging your manicure, like where you're going and what you'll be doing. You can also ask your technician for the "double decker" method to help your honeymoon nails last.

This has been the year for big celebrity weddings. See: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari, and Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker, just to name a few. With as much wedding-day beauty inspiration as each couple provided, some of that also extended to their postnuptials looks, including their honeymoon nails.

If you're planning your own honeymoon and looking for tips, there are a few things to keep in mind. "Think about how long you will be away, where you're going, and potential upkeep for the trip duration," celebrity manicurist and educator Julie Kandalec tells POPSUGAR. If you're opting for a longer honeymoon, you might consider bringing a small kit that consists of a nail file, cuticle oil, and a shine buffer for touch-ups.

If you're worried you won't have enough time between events to book a salon appointment, try this brilliant hack: "My favorite trick for wedding or honeymoon nails is the 'double-decker mani,'" Kandalec says. "First, ask for a gel manicure in the color or design you want to wear on your honeymoon. Then, you can apply your wedding nail color in regular polish over it. After the wedding, use a non-acetone polish remover to remove your wedding nail color, and your fun honeymoon nail color is underneath — without another trip to the salon." When doing this trick, it's important to keep layering rules in mind — you may have to keep the honeymoon manicure on the lighter side as to not have any staining or darker colors peeking through your wedding manicure.

Otherwise, you'll also want to consider the outside elements that can impact your manicure, like the climate you'll be in. If it's somewhere with lots of sun exposure, consider getting a gel manicure beforehand and asking for a "no cleanse" or "no wipe" top coat as the final step, Kandalec says. "They are nonporous and extra stain-resistant to prevent discoloration, fading, and staining from the sun, sunscreens, and foods that stain easily, like blueberries."

Plus, if you'll be in a tropical or warmer climate that has bugs, make sure you don't get any sunscreen or bug spray on your nails, says celebrity manicurist Mar y Sol Inzerillo. "That can instantly wear down the products used on your nails and ruin your manicure." Alternatively, if you're honeymooning in a dryer, colder climate, applying cuticle oil and lotion multiple times throughout the day will help to keep the skin on your hands hydrated while simultaneously helping the nail polish or gel last longer, she adds.

Now for the hard part: figuring out exactly which color and design to choose for your honeymoon nails. If you're looking for inspiration, take a page out of these celebrities' books ahead.
